General Responsibilities of the Board of Management
The overall responsibilities placed on the Board of Management by the Deed of Trust for Community Schools, the Articles of Management for Comprehensive Schools and the Education Act of 1998 are detailed in Section 2.10 of the present manual. All of these responsibilities aim to ensure that the school is managed for the benefit of its pupils and to provide an appropriate education for each student in the school. These responsibilities are further detailed in the Education (Welfare) Act of 2000 and in the Education for Persons with Special Educational Needs Act of 2004.
The Board of Management is required, as far as is reasonably possible, to ensure that the climate of the school is such that students are valued and respected and that their welfare and rights are protected. The Board of Management implements this responsibility through delegation to the Principal and staff who are responsible for the day to day running of the school through the promotion of a school climate of shared values, attitudes and beliefs between the teaching staff, parents and students.
