Conditions for Resignation/Retirement

Last updated: Mon, Jul 22nd, 2019 1:57:57 pm

Permanent whole-time and Regular part-time teachers are expected to give one month's notice of intention to resign. Casual and Non-Casual teachers are required to give at least one week's notice.

It should be noted that when teachers retire on 1st September, they will benefit from the PSSA Restoration effective from that date for pension and lump sum calculation. There is no requirement to retire after 1 September once the relevant eligibility criteria for pensionable service have been met.

Schools can appoint the replacement teacher with effect from 1st September, thereby preserving the contractual school year for those teachers. In that instance, the replacement teacher maintains the normal school year contract. The replacement teacher may be expected to take up the post when the school reopens even if this should take place before September 1st in order to comply with the operational school year as defined by the standard school year
