Please see below, an invitation to board members for an online training session on the updated Child Protection Procedures for Schools on Tuesday 3rd of February 2026 from 7pm-8.30pm.
The board of management obligations in relation to training are set out in Section 2 of the Governance Manual advising that “Board members are strongly advised to access relevant training to assist them in carrying out their role.” (S2.21).
The Child Protection Procedures for Schools 2025 state:
11.1.3 Training for Boards of Management:
In addition to training provided by Tusla and Oide, the department supports the school management bodies to provide training for chairpersons and for members of the board of management to enable them to fulfil their child protection responsibilities. Board members should avail of such training, and the school should retain a record of this.
As you are aware, following engagement between the Department of Education and the Education partners, the Child Protection Procedures for Schools have been updated. The updated procedures replace the procedures which were published in 2017 and revised in 2023. The updated (2025) procedures must be adopted by the board of management no later than their last meeting prior to 31 December 2026.
Objectives:
This webinar will afford board members another opportunity to attend the Child Protection Procedures 2025 training that was presented at the in-person area information meetings in September 2025.
