Teachers

The purpose of the Job Sharing Scheme is to assist employees in combining work commitments and personal responsibilities and choices.

Arrangements for job-sharing teachers should be considered within the spirit of the scheme to facilitate the teacher in combining work with personal responsibilities or choices. In reaching a decision, the welfare and educational needs of the pupils shall take precedence over all other considerations. Job-sharing is the sharing of a wholetime teaching post between two permanent teachers or, one permanent teacher and one or more teachers/lecturers engaged to teach the remaining 11 hours in a temporary fixed term contract.

A teacher approved for job-sharing shall have their hours reduced to 11 hours consisting of teaching hours and professional time of 20 minutes.

The latest date of application for teachers who wish to job-share is February 1st of the previous school year.

Maximum Period

Minimum period is 1 school year – subject to the approval of the Board of Management.

  • RPT (fixed term) teacher appointment


Special Needs Assistants

An SNA may make an application to share their current wholetime post on a 50:50 basis i.e. to work half the weekly hours they are currently contracted to work.

The minimum period for a Job Sharing arrangement is one school year.
